My name is Edith Johnson, AKA EDEE…I’ve always been a lover of stories and an admirer of beautiful language. So much so, I begin to write words of my own. But this bookstore nudged at my heart, a space for moms like me! A space for gathering, conversation, authentic connection. It’s hard to pinpoint the exact moment this desire entered my heart to launch a children’s bookstore. Maybe the spontaneous “business” plan in a note on my iPhone in 2018 or the short-lived job at the largest bookstore in the world.Life had its way with me as it tends to do with us all. But reading the last few paragraphs of Chuck Palahniuks book ‘Consider This’ sparked something in me! It read, “What if all our anger and fear is unwarranted? What if world events are unfolding in PERFECT order to deliver us to a distant joy we can’t conceive of at this time? PLEASE consider that the next ending will be the happy one” And just like that I dreamed again! This time, with grit gained over the years. I was ready. So the day after Thanksgiving in 2020, I laid in bed, phone in hand and googled how to start a business. Registered my business, sold my beloved trumpet (yes y’all I marched in the band..middle school, high school, and college) I ordered a box of books the next day, got a table from offerup and did my first vending event 2 weeks later in mid-December. Fast forward to 10 months later I received the keys to my very own brick&mortar…it was ALL BY FAITH. Not knowing, learning, falling, getting encouraged, getting discouraged, pushing thru and NEVER giving up!
